Description
High Violet, The National’s 5th studio continues on from the unmitigated success of Boxer (2007) and is for all intents and purposes “a masterpiece.” Lead singer Matt Berninger‘s vocals are as deep and haunting as ever, while they are made all the richer by guest supporting vocalists Sufjan Stevens and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver).
This is an album you can lose yourself listening to from beginning to end. High Violet reminds us that beautiful music is still being made and that The National is at the epicentre of it all.

Comments about 4AD National - High Violet:
Incredible album from "The National", inbelievable hit songs. Each song carries a well-design pop-rock flavour. Can´t stop listenning to it and probably it will be one of the best this year.

Comments about 4AD National - High Violet:
Perhaps it's the video for Bloodbuzz Ohio, but listening to this album feels like one of those conversations you have with a complete stranger after one drink too many, where you find yourself feeling a direct connection with that person's pain and longing. Where what might have been a drunken ramble becomes something spoken directly from the heart.
For me there is an evocation of the same kind of melodic confession of vulnerability that I always loved about David McComb and The Triffids. While they sang of the loneliness of the wide open road, The National takes us to the end of the road and what it feels like when you get to where you think you wanted to go.
Highly recommended

Comments about 4AD National - High Violet:
After two fantastic albums (Alligator & Boxer) expectations were big when The National released High Violet. The album proved to be better than the earlier releases and is a strong contender for Album of the year 2010...

Comments about 4AD National - High Violet:
another hall mark in the nationals progress. at Glastonbury they were described as ''bruce springsteen meets joy division'' they they are better than that. dark, poetic, but with heavy rhythm section and classical overtones, and entirely original.the twin lead guitarist brothers classical music training overlays the rhythm section brothers rock back beat.

If you liked "Boxer", then you must have this album. Very broody, infectious and rewards with repeat listens. For me it doesn't quite meet "Boxer" for consistency, but is still the album of the year so far.

Comments about 4AD National - High Violet:
I thought it was impossible for The National to top breakthrough album "Boxer" but with "High Violet" they may just have done the impossible. You'll love the wit and the imagery the lyrics invoke. Not a dud track to be found, but my particular favourites are "Anyone's Ghost" and "Afraid Of Everyone" (note the stuttering near the end when Matt Berninger sings, "Your voice is swallowing my so-so-soul.") "High Violet" is the band's third consecutive great album and is their BEST yet! Expect it to top everyone's year-end list.
