Description
Weighing in at three CDs and three videos, plus a bunch of tour memorabilia, the sheer bulk of Live Shit: Binge & Purge scares off anyone but the most devoted fans, which is too bad. Although it is exhausting, this box provides ample proof of the brutal power of Metallica in concert -- the entire program of a Mexico City concert is included, and it is awe-inspiring. For hardcore fans, Live Shit is a godsend. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Comments about ELEKTRA Metallica - Live Shit: Binge & Purge (3CD + 2DVD):
Although the physical package may look a little unimposing, the contents certainly make up for it. This box set contains some legendary performances by a band at what many claim is their pinnacle, between 1989 and 1993. The set contains two full concerts videos here, Seattle 1989 and San Diego 1992.
In just four years, the band exploded in popularity, and it is amusing to see the size of the sets and crowds increase dramatically. Both performances have their pros and cons; the set list of the first has more of their older material but the drums can be overpowering, and the second has moments of rock indulgence which are fun to watch, including James and Lars having a drum duel, but more songs from their eponymous hit-album.
Also included is a show from Mexico in 1993 that spans over three discs which includes some great renditions of their tunes.
You also get a stencil of Scary Guy and the booklet from the original VHS/CD release on the 2nd DVD as a digital interactive copy. This contains an insight into the touring juggernaut, great photos and some absolutely hilarious documents from promoters to the band and vice versa.
If you are a fan of Metallica and would like to relive their past excesses, this box set is recommended
